Hands-on workshop
Empowering Marine Citizen Science with Digital Tools
Form teams of ~5 people. You'll work with paper and pen — no laptops needed.
Design your marine database
10 minutes · one paper per team · one marine project per team
Each team picks one marine project and sketches its database on a single sheet of paper. List every field your project would need to collect for a single observation.
Examples of fields to consider:
- Date & time
- Location (lat / lon)
- Weather conditions
- IUCN Red List status
- Depth
- Altitude
- Habitat type
- Salinity
- Sea surface temperature
- Currents
- Visibility
- Observer / team
Map your AI integrations
Still on paper · write what systems plug into your project and why
On the same (or a new) sheet, list the AI systems, agents and apps that would extend your project — and for each one, a short reason it matters.
Examples to spark ideas:
- AI agent that drafts media press releases from new findings
- AI agent that scouts and matches relevant grants
- AI agent that aggregates citizen-science observations of a species across platforms
- AI dashboards on top of your database for live insights
- AI apps that auto-fill weather, tides and oceanographic context
- AI image / audio recognition for species ID from photos or hydrophones
Share your moments
Took photos or videos during the workshop? We'd love to see them! Send them to info@mermanconservation.co.uk
When you're ready, head to Share Ideas to submit your team's best concept.
